After an extensive research and concept phase, Mexx relaunched its Dutch and German Eshop in the first quarter of 2006. Being co-responsible for the interaction design and user experience I conducted a series of activities, like interviews and user tests in order to find out the business and user requirements. These requirements were translated into a new Eshop concept, which was used as the fundament for the (global and detail) design phase. Every step in the design phase was verified by building prototypes and doing user tests. This process resulted in a more appealing Eshop with an improved user experience, which fit the Mexx brand much better. Next to this the redesigned Eshop is far more flexible than the former one, giving the Eshop team much more freedom to do their job properly.
Millward Brown, known for their marketing research, needed to extend the reach of their online tool ‘the Ideablog’ in order to support their research. Their research has a strong focus on visuals that should be rated by test subjects, ranging from product photos to image campaigns. A variable concept was created to support all these different kinds of marketing research within the same solution. In this solution test subjects have to rate the different visuals by dragging and dropping the on a stage marked by two variable axes. The results are gathered and aggregated in a backend for further interpretation. After the realization of the Interact Map, the tool has been used for many different kind of research for companies like Coca-Cola and Kraft Foods.
WYTIWYG (What You Touch Is What You Get) is a keyboard concept based on the Microsoft pressure sensitive keyboard prototype. The aim of the concept is to show the user what is going to happen before he/she actually performs a certain keyboard action. By analyzing the keystrokes, medium and hard pressure levels are distinguished next to the regular pressure levels caused by typing. These medium and hard pressure levels are used to activate actions, like preview and 'pre-do', which lead to a more explorative workflow.

This concept is demoed at the Microsoft student innovation contest at the UIST 2009 conference in Victoria, Canada.
Often you see people struggle while using a computer. Wouldn’t it be great if you could just tell the computer what to do? In order to research this question and help novice users, a concept called Nimble was designed and built. It is a graphical command line interface which enables the user to communicate with the computer using natural human language.
Nimble enables the user to perform actions using his own words, like "Open www.google.com" or "Play the latest album of Jack Johnson". The user does not have to find out where to find and how to use the applications to perform the desired action. Instead the computer does exactly what the user wants it to do and performs the action immediately.
Mexx Connect Magazine is a magazine for the Mexx Connect loyalty program for Mexx customers. In addition to the printed magazine, Mexx publishes an online version of the magazine with extra content especially for the Mexx Connect members. The online version of this magazine has been redesigned from a static flash website, which had to be build from scratch every time the magazine was published, to a flexible framework which made it possible to publish separate articles automatically in a preset magazine template. This template handles all navigation and (pre)loading which allowes the designer to focus their creativity on the design of the articles instead of the technical details. The publishing time of an online Connect Magazine is reduced from a couple of days to a couple of minutes.
Mexx Online Leave Registration is a web-based intranet application made for the HR department of Mexx International. The application enables Mexx employees to manage their own free days from any computer that is connected to the Mexx network. When an employee requests a leave, his or her manager will receive a notification with the option to approve of disapprove the leave. The (dis)approval of the manager is communicated to the employee by email and is directly processed in the backend systems of the HR department. Next to the option to request a leave, manager and employees have the possibility to view the leaves of colleagues within their department or business unit.
During the past years a lot of different Mexx microsites have been created. Mexx utilizes these microsites to communicate specific messages other than the main brand message, in order to have more freedom in the way these messages are presented. These messages range from store openings and special events to collection sites and special promotions with external partners like Procter & Gamble, Philips and Marie-Claire.
